Kim Kardashian, the reality star and beauty mogul, has always enjoyed vintage fashion and iconic style. Recently, she paid homage to one of her favorite designers, Thierry Mugler, by recreating some of his most memorable looks that evoke the glamour of Old Hollywood.
The Vogue Italia Cover
One of the most striking images of Kim’s tribute was her cover for Vogue Italia’s July 2023 issue, where she wore a black satin dress with a cone-shaped corset that accentuated her curves. The dress was inspired by a Mugler creation from his Fall 1997 couture collection, worn by model Eva Herzigova on the runway.
Kim paired the dress with sheer black gloves and a dramatic feathered headpiece that resembled a fascinator. She also sported a wavy bob hairstyle that gave her a retro vibe. The cover was shot by photographer Rafael Pavarotti and styled by Mugler, who conceptualized the entire shoot.
Kim told Vogue Italia that she felt like a new person after her divorce from Kanye West and regained her confidence in her style. She also admired Mugler and his visionary designs, saying he always had a total vision, from hair to nails to everything.

The 7HOLLYWOOD Magazine Shoot
Another stunning photo shoot that Kim did for 7HOLLYWOOD magazine in December 2019 showcased her in various Mugler outfits that channeled the likes of Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor, two of her inspirations. She wore a gold corset gown with a metallic belt that resembled Wonder Woman’s outfit, a red pantsuit with a plunging neckline, and a black and gold mini dress with a high collar.
Kim accessorized each look with lavish jewelry, such as diamond chokers, rings, earrings, and bracelets. She also rocked a sleek bob hairstyle with bangs that framed her face. The shoot was photographed by Alix Malka and styled by Mugler as well.
Kim shared glimpses of the shoot on her Instagram account, where she received praise from her fans and fellow celebrities. She also revealed that she had been a longtime fan of Mugler and that she was honored to wear his creations.

The Mugler Exhibition
Kim’s love for Mugler also led her to attend the opening of the Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibition in Montreal in April 2019, where she wore two different Mugler dresses that showcased his signature style4. The first one was a white strapless corset mini dress that featured a sculptural design and a thigh-high slit. The second one was a black halter dress with a cut-out bodice and a crystal-embellished skirt.
Kim posed with Mugler at the exhibition, where she also met some of his muses, such as model Pat Cleveland and singer Celine Dion. She also shared some of the exhibition’s highlights on her Instagram stories, where she admired Mugler’s iconic creations, such as the motorcycle corset, the angel wings, and the robot suit.
Kim also wore a Mugler dress to the 2019 Met Gala, where she stunned in a beaded latex creation that mimicked the effect of dripping water. The dress was custom-made for Kim by Mugler, who came out of retirement to design it for her. The dress was inspired by the night theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion, and Mugler’s vision of a California girl stepping out of the ocean.
